HKPA Conference 2024

The Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association Conference 2024 was successfully held at the Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West on October 26, 2024. We extend our gratitude to our co-organizer, the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as well as to our sponsoring companies and organizing committees for their invaluable support.

We were honored to welcome distinguished guests, including Dr. PANG Fei-Chau (Commissioner for Primary Healthcare), Dr. Hon. David LAM (Councillor, LegCo, HKSAR) and Dr. Shirley Ngai (representative of the co-organizer, the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University), along with several esteemed speakers.
 
We also appreciate all the abstract submissions and value your contributions. Congratulations to the awardees for the best oral presentations, posters, and rapid 5 presentations!

C&PWG: Physiotherapists’ Role in Cardiac Rehabilitation in Community

Upon completion of the programme, you will be able to
  • keep abreast of the current evidence on exercise in cardiac rehabilitation
  • understand the principle of Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type (FITT) in exercise prescription for community dwelling individuals with cardiac conditions
  • understand the exercise intensity techniques and progression in cardiac rehabilitation
  • aware of safety issues during exercise training for cardiac patients with co-morbidities
  • prescribe resistance training for community dwelling individuals with cardiac conditions

Instructor: Dr Jamie LAU RPT, DHSC (University of the West of England)

Jamie Lau was an experienced clinical physiotherapist in Hospital Authority in various specialties before her retirement. She then continued her professional career in primary health care. She has taken up her work in Kwai Tsing District Health Centre for 5 years. After the phase 2 rehabilitation in hospital, survivors of acute myocardial infarction were referred to DHC for phase 3 community rehabilitation programme. Jamie and her team of physiotherapists continued the physical training and monitored their progress. With her academic background of Master degree in Women’s Health Studies from CUHK and Doctorate of Health and Social Care from University of West of England, along with the certification of Exercise specialist from American College of Sports Medicine, Jamie evaluated the cardiac rehabilitation programme and presented the significant results in the 9th Asian Preventive Cardiology & Cardiac Rehabilitation Conference in 2022.

陳偉雄從事物理治療師超過42年,於2008年修畢香港大學中醫全科學士,並獲得多個專業認可證書資格;主治範圍包括肌筋疼痛症、中醫治療情志病、抗衰老養生調理等; 2006年開始參與中國內地殘障兒童義務工作。透過教學把物理治療知識和技術傳授予內地復康服務機構的治療師,讓更多殘障兒童受惠。同年開始出任香港自閉症聯盟的義務專家講師,專注於SEN兒童照顧及中醫治療的研究。希望能將中西結合,令SEN 人士受惠。

This webinar aims to enhance physiotherapists’ understanding of the significance and composition of various physiotherapy statistics and efficiency reports. It will also address the application of these reports in developing strategic frameworks for advocacy and policy formulation, particularly in the context of health reform in Australia. This knowledge is particularly pertinent for Hong Kong, which is currently undergoing significant changes in its referral and healthcare systems. The session will include presentations followed by a Q&A segment.
