Speaker: Rachel Fabiniak, PT, DPT

Rachel Fabiniak began her studies at The Georgia Institute of Technology, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2009. Rachel then went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Emory University in 2013.
After receiving her doctorate, Rachel went into clinical practice as a physiotherapist in the Spinal Cord Injury Day Program at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga. Rachel also has experience in community physiotherapy and inpatient rehabilitation.
During Rachel’s time at Shepherd Center, she developed a passion for seating and mobility which ultimately led to her career with Permobil. Rachel joined on with Permobil in January 2018 and relocated to Sydney, Australia in June 2018 as the clinical education specialist for Australia and New Zealand.

Resignation of Mr. Ivan YEUNG from HKPA Executive Committee (2021-2023)

Dear HKPA Members,
This is to announce that Mr. Ivan YEUNG, who was appointed as the co-opted member of the HKPA Executive Committee (2021-2023) on 29 January 2022, resigned from his position due to personal reasons with effect from 19 December 2022. To fill the vacancy, HKPA Executive Committee (EC) has appointed Mr. Jeffrey MAN, Physiotherapist II of the Yan Chai Hospital to be a co-opted EC member until the next HKPA EC election in 2023.

Recruitment for On-field Sports Physiotherapy Volunteers for Oxfam Trailwalker 2022

Oxfam Trailwalker 2022

Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW) is one of the largest fundraising sports events in Hong Kong. In the previous years, annually over 5,200 Oxfam Trailwalkers helped raise about HK$40 million annually to support Oxfam’s development projects and emergency relief programs around the world.

This year, the OTW is back this year after affected by the COVID pandemic and we are once again invited by the organizer – Oxfam Hong Kong again to provide on-field sports physiotherapy service for the walkers. We are now cordially inviting physiotherapists on this event to serve the walkers at the 2 check points.

講座由四個部份組成，講員將會以學者、服務提供者及服務使用者的視角，闡釋水療和水中運動如何改善病人和普羅大眾的身心康盛狀態，並檢視及探討本地相關服務發展的過去、現在及未來。

HKPA Final M&A Consultation Session (Hybrid)

Dear members,

 

The Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association (HKPA) has engaged a consultant (Ms. Margaret GRANT) to undertake a collaborative process with the HKPA Executive Committee, Chairpersons of the HKPA Specialty / Working Groups and HKPA members to review and update the HKPA Memorandum and Articles (M&A) of Association.

The overall aim of the review and update is to reduce the risk on HKPA by ensuring its governing document reflects good governance principles and complies with any legislative requirements for a company limited by guarantee.

After a long period of work, the consultant prepared the pre-final draft of the new HKPA Articles in response to the feedback from the HKPA Executive Committee, Chairpersons of the HKPA Specialty / Working Groups, legal advisor and HKPA members. The pre-final draft of the new HKPA Articles and the comparative table illustrating the difference between the proposed new HKPA Articles and existing HKPA M&A were disseminated to the members for review via email. HKPA members are welcome to offer your views through https://forms.gle/BGQGDz8HFVS9JRCx7 by 6 Feb 2023.

In addition, the final member consultation session with the consultant in hybrid mode will be held on 13 Feb 2023. The consultant will take the members through the pre-final draft of the new HKPA Articles. Please register via https://forms.gle/u7zQwWhhbTYEV5fU8 by 6 Feb 2023.

The Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association 60th Anniversary Launching Ceremony was successfully held in the Hotel ICON on 14 Jan 2023.

It is our honor to have a number of honorable guests, including our officiating guests, Dr. PANG Fei-Chau (Commissioner for Primary Healthcare), Miss. Vega WONG, JP (Commissioner for Rehabilitation), Dr. Hon. David LAM (Councillor, LegCo, HKSAR) and Mr. Philip TSAI, BBS, JP (Chairman, Supplementary Medical Professions Council). Our guests from the 4 physiotherapy schools, NGO partners, and HKPA ex-presidents were cordially invited to attend this event to celebrate and share this important moment with us.

PSG – Sensory Integration in Paediatric Physiotherapy Practice

Jessica completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) in Adelaide at the University of South Australia. Following her degree, she remained in Adelaide to specialise in paediatrics at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Since finishing her formal training as a Physiotherapist, she has been working in paediatrics for over 13 years. Jessica has been working as a Physiotherapist at SPOT since 2013, and as Clinical Director from 2017. Jessica completed her Sensory Integration Certification in 2017, and believes all children benefit from a sensorimotor approach to intervention.

Programme content:

In this face-to-face talk with practical session, participants will learn what sensory integration is, how we identify challenges in these systems, how they contribute to common childhood presentations, and how to incorporate these areas into our treatment strategies.

Capacity:

30 (physiotherapists only);
priority will be given to PSG and HKPA/MPTA members;
First come first served according to date chop of mail.\
